Poormans Raider
« on: 12:43, Fri 30 December 2011 »
Hi.

Im a newb to this forum.. so thought id say hello..

Ive had two GTT's  many years ago both phase 2's.. and have recently been buying old cars.. to play around with.. wanting to own a raider at some point.

My daily drivers are a Clio 172 Sport and a MK2 Golf GTi..

Anyway a recent purchase of a Renault 5 Campus Prima for 180 quid.. brought on a idea..

Here's where Im at with Poormans raider..

Still a long way to go.. with probably lots of hurdles along the way to over come.

ps. any body want to swap a mint set of 5 fleck gtt seats for blue fleck?

Welcome to the site.
Nice project  8)  is it finished now? The Campus looks like a really solid base to start with.

Hi

Nah, far from finished.. still got lots of bits to get..  mainly trim at the moment..

but having fun doing it.. the campus is ok.. the downside is the trim hols in the doors and rear quarters.. currently filled with  black grommets.. unless i can find some doors (non torx type)

fitted the new rear boot lip today to replace the campus one..

and starting looking at lining up the bodykit..

and

although seems I need the metal brackets on the rear bumper to sort the sagging out... does any body have any? Seems Campus ones are different.

while the weather held out.. time to fit some of the interior bits I got from gt-turbo-parts.co.uk

Campus's have minimal interior.. so the mini centre console had to go..

to be replace with a GTT version.

I also replace the mini wipe motor cover ..

... with a full length version.

then it was time to fit the last Raider front wing.. The campus wings were both damaged and rotten at the bottom.. I cant believe how much earth fell out  from inside the wing.

Now to fit the front bumper..to check for alignment before I take it off to be repaired and sprayed to match.

Anyone know how to remove the TORX bolts from the bottom of the wing easily? I had hell of a job removing the N/S one.. and still have to remove the O/S one.

Spent a bit of time yesterday carrying on fitting the body kit to the poormans conversion..

drilling the 3 holes to hold the arch on took a bit of planning to make sure they were in the right place, remember this is a campus.

I then set about repairing the mounting points in the raider side skirts, I used epoxy resin and the skirts were left to dry for a couple of days.

and

in total I had 4 broken tabs across both side skirts.

ive now goto start on the passenger side.. but the rain has stopped play.

as I slowly make my way round the car fitting the body kit.. one of the rear archers was missing all its bolts to mount it to the rear arch.

I found the best solution to repairing the arches is to use nylon thread and nylon washers and nuts. Mainly because 1. they dont scratch the paint work, and 2. they glue better to the body kit than the metal ones.  :D

I also set about cleaning up the repaired side skirts..

Ive actually fitted one of the these now , pics to come soon.. remember this is a campus (so no holes!)

Next up was to fit the rear Raider seats.. they needed a bit of a clean up first.

but they came up well and were swiftly fitted into the car.

next up.. is to complete the rest of the kit.. and fit the modified scorpion exhaust.

bfn..

hia mate how did you manage to fit the kit ? i would like to fit it the same way as it come off the rear arches are easy enough just a little cutting and drilling. the skirts are the problem though i dont want to just bond them on the car . im doing the same conversion to my campus i just fitted all the gtt suspension and brakes

hi.. probably not the best way.. but this is how i fitted the side skirts

First off i taped off where each mounting clip was on the sideskirt, this tape was visable all around the side skirt.

Starting where the clips were..

and going right around the side skirt...

then holding this up to the sill.. i was able to repeat with more tape.. marking where the clips would mount below on the sill. You can just make this out on the image below.. tape on sill & on side skirt.

next.. i set about drilling the hold into the sill for the rivet so i could mount the clips. The hole is drilled exactly above the crease line of the sill. I was able to find this out form the original Raider wing I had, which still had one clip mount.

The rustproof rivet was dipped into underseal wax and then riveted in place thru the mounting clip.

This was completed all the way along the sill as required by the tape markings. I could then hang the side skirt on the sill freely.

then i drilled into the lower part of the sill so i could fix the bottom part of the side skirt to the sill itself. This was done easily with black self tapping screws.

Job done!

currently the car looks likes this..  :D
