B18ft tuning and living with
« on: 21:51, Tue 29 November 2011 »
I know its not strictly a Renault, (but we all know its a renault engine), but i got myself an ugly (but tidy) 480 turbo
the intention was to put the engine in the campus but its just soo cushy inside, heated seats n that, so im gonna run that for a bit and then find myself a nice shell to put it in later on.

But for now i just wanted to know what i can do with it.
Can i take the dumpvalve off and take the filter out without the ecu having a shit fit?
What suspension components are there out there.
Are the wheels the same fitment as 5's (dont know what the center bore is)

TIA
Mark

thats such an ugly car!!

but in answer to your question, you can moddifty it just like most other car, theres loads of companies that do suspension parts etc..

i think buy another campus and transfer everything over, you should be able to put heated seats in campus with light modification and wireing too! instant win imo!

Cheers, think its gonna get lowered and then stanced on the standard wheels
By the looks of it 40mm spacers would fit!!

Went for the mot today and it failed on the hazard switch not being perfect. how stupid is that.

I don't think it's ugly at all. The 'wedge' styling looks quite funky, and everyone knows only the best cars have pop up headlights.  :D

Looks quite a tidy motor as well.

I must say im liking the rear, i think the fronts a grower though.
Yeah it only had a bit of corrosion on the subframe and some of the lights had issues, mainly blown bulbs. Once its sunny outside ill t-cut it up and see how nice it is.

My neighbour had one f those for years and it just kept going no matter how much he neglected it. After another Volvo he upgraded to a Saab late last year, hes not happy.
If you know of any links to sites that have any info on the pearly ones, pm please.

I'd keep the original recirculating dump valve as an atmospheric one would dump air which has already been read by the air flow meter, which gives idle and fueling problems over time.

If you want a cheap and very effective performance modification, look for a 'richmod' ECU. The 480 turbo has 2 ECU's, one with a metal casing and another with a plastic casing. The 'richmod' would be the plastic one. Basically it is a standard ECU with unrestricted boost limit and a better fuel - ignition map. A guy named Richard on the volvo480 forum used to do these mods, but he doesn't any more. First you have to check what colour is the sticker on your ECU and then try to find one which has been already modified. I must say, it is difficult.

@ 1 bar boost pressure, on a completely standard engine, it can easily increase power from 120bhp (factory) to 165 - 175bhp

Yeah i browse on that dead site a bit for info. Think im gonna go for the scoff mod then crank the boost up, markymark said turn the resistance on the maf up and i need to get some t5 injectors.
The recirc doesnt seem to be doing anything atm, i get chatter with it connected and disconnected. Im not sure i believe that it accounts for the extra air.
