Black 5
« on: 15:43, Sat 01 October 2011 »
Heres my 1988 Black Gtt
Its completely standard apart from a sunroof which means the roof is being chopped because I want it as if it rolled out of the factory
Its also quite rusty and needs a few new bits

When I got it

Stripped put what I could on the drive

Scrubbed this hard  :o

They were a bit mouldy and discoloured

Cleaned up

Tailgate is being replaced due to rust

1st refurb

Wow that looks pretty serious around the windscreen      :| , I have the same job to do around mine now it's out although nowhere near as extensive.
Best of luck with it though, have a look at Baz's black 5.. his was probably the most rotten 5 on here and he just kept going with the repairs.. about half his car is new metal now!

What did you use on the dash? Did you wash it with anything in particular first and then nourish/polish it with something after?

That welding looks serious, nice big workshop though 8)
If you know of any links to sites that have any info on the pearly ones, pm please.

Did you have to replace inner and outer sills?

To be honest I probably went a bit ott on the scuttle panel grinding, although it was quite bad and decided to get rid of the hole lot. I'm looking for a donor as I can rob everything I need pretty much, looking for a campus!

I just used a paint brush and washing liquid on the dash to get into all the tight spaces then dried it & used a citrous interior polish / protector. It's come up quite nice, so much easier to do when it's not in the car

The inner seals are pretty good so just replacing the outers

im going to cover up the door seals but as for the scuttle..... its gone  :o
The garage was a bit of a result actually, it was going to go in my tiny garage but a friend of my dad has let me work in his garages. Im working on it in a spray booth, so when its ready it will be sprayed too

unfortunately im at uni so can only work on it the odd weekend  :(

I came across this for cheap and local so im changing direction a bit
Its got a knocking in the bottom end and the guy I bought it off stipped the engine down, so im gona put my standard lump in it and all the best parts from both cars. Its still going back to standard and I can't wait to get stuck in  :D
