My first 5!
« on: 20:25, Mon 08 August 2011 »
Found some old photos of my very first GT Turbo.

1990 H reg. Did a bit of modding on it. What I can remember:
Prima Tarmac rear spoiler.
M3 stylee wing mirrors.
Fromt bumper splitter, to protect my new front bumper!
Twin headlamp conversion.
Round fog lamps in custom brackets.
Azev E alloys 15".

Cobra daytona buckets.
Pioneer stereo with graphic EQ and 10 CD changer. Remember them?!
Infinity speakers and alpine amp.
GT Tuning in car adjustable boost controller.

Piper X cossie cone filter.
GT Tuning HE5A hybrid turbo.
GT Tuning double capacity itercooler (the first customer one sold in fact!)
GT Tuning recirc dump valve. (Very good mod IMO)
Carb rejetted and set by GT Tuning.
Adjustable timimg sensor.
GT Tuning hi flow turbo elbow and down pipe.
GT Tuning full exhaust with 4" outlet and bumper trim.
GT Tuning turbo heat shield.
GT Tuning strut brace.
Koni springs and adjustable dampers.

It was a great car and I really loved it. But every car has to be replaced at some time and you only live once. So, my dream had to be realised. The 5 was part x'd for:

1993 K Lancia Delta Integrale EVO.
It had a supersprint exhaust and a remap when I bought it. Unfortunately when I was harrassing a new 911 it started to overboost which cuts the ignition, exhaust flames anyone?
After returning to the specialist the actuator was adjusted, and power was lost. Not good. So when I got home A phone call had a plan in action to restore the lost horses, and then some!
Abarth fast road cams and a ported and flowed head were fitted. With new bearings supplied by the warrenty! A new chip remapped at Kershaws in York by Steve Smith of Walkers Garage and the result was 238 BHp @ wheels. Fast? OH YES
It also gained those lovely OZ Mito II split rim alloys with 265/35/17 rubber all round. Grippy? Tunnel roof driving would not have surprised me
Next mod was to replace first gear and input shaft that lost all their teeth. uprated clutch fitted at the same time. Fun resumed. For a week, untill the clutch friction plate sheared off. New clutch and gearbox parts paid for by the clutch warrenty had her back to rude health in no time.
I sold hter to a mate when I moved to Canada and he had to change the alloys because he could only find 1 265 tyre (they were all bald nearly :D ) so he fitted AZEV C's. Values of EVO's are noe higher than I paid in 1997!

Too right mate, but I was using 35 of super a week and work was only 4 miles away. That was in 1997! Don't think I could afford to run it today  I have told the wife I want one for my 40th though!

Holy mother, get a clio for the wife and think of all the money you will save to spend on your 5! I was always surprised when my mapped Megane 225 consistently returned 32mpg. Who needs diesel :?:
